Wi-Fi Alliance certifies first converged products

AUSTIN, Texas-The Wi-Fi Alliance has announced the first round of certified products for converged Wi-Fi and cellular communications. The company also has initiated a Wi-Fi/Cellular Convergence task force to identify and meet the requirements for certifying such products.

The product categories certified include Wi-Fi-capable personal digital assistants and cell phones, Wi-Fi-capable handheld computers and Wi-Fi convergence accessories. The HP iPAQ Pocket PC h6315, Nokia 9500 Communicator and Motorola MPx fall into the Wi-Fi-capable PDA/cell-phone bracket. The Intermec 760 mobile computer is the only Wi-Fi-capable handheld computer in the first round of certification, while the SanDisk Connect Wi-Fi SD card is the only Wi-Fi convergence accessory announced for certification.
