MEXICO CITY-America Movil S.A. de C.V.’s newly released quarterly results for its U.S.-based Tracfone subsidiary reflect subscriber trends in addition to financial results.

The company said the prepaid carrier’s subscriber base now totals 3.8 million, with 283,000 new customers added during the third quarter and 892,000 added since the beginning of 2004.

The company said minutes of use averaged 59, up slightly from 58 in the year-ago period. Average revenue per user, however, fell to $14 from $15 a year ago. Additionally, churn was 4.3 percent, up slightly from last year’s 4.2 percent.

Revenues for the third quarter reached $205 million, an 11.1 percent increase from last quarter and a 48.6 percent increase from the third quarter 2003. The company generated earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $17 million. Operating profit meanwhile reached $13 million, down from last quarter but almost double figures from last year.
