Nextel, Amdocs extend services agreement

Amdocs and Nextel Communications Inc. have extended their managed services agreement, initially signed in 2000, by more than two years, to the end of 2011. Nextel and Amdocs said they will continue working together to enhance Nextel’s customer care and core billing operations, including data center services, application support and management of billing operations for all lines of business, from digital cellular, push to talk and wireless Web to text/numeric messaging capabilities.

“Over the past four years, Amdocs has shown excellence in managing and supporting large-scale projects, and this extension demonstrates the high level of trust developed between our two companies,” said Dick LeFave, senior vice president and chief information officer of Nextel. “Amdocs offers a combination of products and services needed to create a seamless customer experience, which is essential to drive subscriber growth and loyalty.”

Amdocs also is supplying the billing platform for Nextel’s wireless broadband trial.

In addition, Reuters reported that investors are betting Amdocs will win more billing business from Cingular Wireless now that its acquisition of AT&T Wireless Services Inc. is final. The report said Cingular Wireless plans to transfer AT&T Wireless customers to its in-house billing system over about two years. AT&T Wireless used billing from Convergys Corp., but Cingular’s main billing provider is Amdocs.
