RESTON, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. reported a strategic alliance with Raytheon JPS Communications to allow push-to-talk interoperability between Nextel’s iDEN-based service and land mobile radio systems using Raytheon’s ACU-1000 technology. The alliance will include joint solutions development, sales and marketing activities.
Raytheon said disparate radio systems are plugged into an ACU switch, and the PTT audio stream is translated between radio systems and enhanced with digital signal processing technology. The solution is designed to work with most two-way radio systems and can be coupled with radio over Internet Protocol products to provide hundreds of nodes for larger applications and for wide-area interoperability systems.
