SAN DIEGO-Novatel Wireless Inc. will provide Vodafone with third-generation wireless data products.
Novatel will integrate its Merlin 3G UMTS Wireless PC Card Modems with Vodafone’s Mobile Connect software, allowing Vodafone subscribers to securely send and receive e-mails, browse the Internet and download attachments at speeds up to 384 kilobits per second.
Novatel this week also reported financial results for the third quarter.
The company said it garnered revenues of $31 million, a 29-percent increase from last quarter and a 285-percent increase from a year ago. Net income was $4.9 million, or 16 cents per share, which Novatel said is the highest in its history.
“With the addition of Vodafone, we will now serve all the major carriers introducing UMTS in Europe and the United States,” said Peter Leparulo, chief executive officer of Novel. “In the fourth quarter, we expect to enter volume production of EV-DO products. With these positive developments, we are increasingly becoming a pure-play 3G provider, with the broadest 3G product portfolio and firm purchase orders from many of the world’s largest wireless carriers.”
