SEOUL, South Korea-Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. inked a new deal with Oz Communications Inc. to install the company’s instant messaging software into select Samsung mobile phones. The deal is the latest in a series of significant customer wins for Oz, a privately held company based in Montreal.
Samsung said it will install the Oz Mobile IM Client in its new X427M and E317 mobile phones for Cingular Wireless L.L.C., and on the E315 for T-Mobile USA Inc.
“The demand for feature-rich mobile services like mobile IM is rapidly increasing, and Samsung continually strives to bring advanced services to mobile operators and their subscribers,” said Muzib Khan, vice president of product management for Samsung’s mobile phone business. “Oz’s Mobile IM Client solution will allow us to provide customers with the mobile IM experience they desire.”
Oz sells IM software for both networks and devices. The company’s software powers the IM offerings from T-Mobile and Cingular and it is available on various handsets from Nokia Corp., Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P. and LG Electronics Co. Ltd. Further, Siemens AG and Nokia resell Oz’s IM technology through their own IM offers for sale to wireless carriers.
