SmartServ to use Sprint PCS network for prepaid offering

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa.-SmartServ Online Inc. will offer prepaid mobile phone service and handsets on Sprint PCS’ nationwide network, the company announced Wednesday.

SmartServ will launch the mobile virtual network operator service under the company’s Uphonia brand on Sprint’s network in the first quarter of 2005. SmartServ hopes to target wireless users looking for flexible plans without annual contracts and credit checks.

The Pennsylvania-based MVNO will also offer content, including ringtones, images and graphics through kiosks, a Web site, and via direct download. SmartServ first launched the Uphonia prepaid content platform in August, but did not disclose the carrier with which it was working.
