Mobile gaming buzz continues with $18M Digital Bridges investment

Investors continued to fuel the buzz surrounding mobile gaming Thursday as Digital Bridges closed a third round of funding that raised $18 million.

The U.K.-based developer and publisher said it will use the capital to expand its presence in the Asian and North American markets, and the company plans to open a U.S. West Coast office within several weeks. Existing investors Apax Partners and Argo Global Capital participated in the round.

“There’s venture capital everywhere; everyone wants a piece of the action,” Anders Evju, Digital Bridges’ vice president and general manager of U.S. operations, said last month. “We haven’t seen the tip of the iceberg (in mobile gaming).”

Wednesday, the company announced an agreement to produce a series of games licensed by Sports Illustrated. The first offering, a football trivia game, is expected in December.<p
