Connexion by Boeing signs agreements with 2 Asian carriers

SEATTLE-Boeing’s efforts to bring high-speed wireless Internet access to airline passengers made news again Friday with two agreements with Asian telecom companies.

StarHub, a Singapore-based communications company, agreed to add Connexion by Boeing to its services portfolio. The companies said they are completing network compatibility testing for the project, which will allow StarHub customers to access e-mail accounts and the Internet while in flight.

Boeing announced a similar agreement with Japanese behemoth NTT Communications. Beginning in December, NTT customers can access Connexion by Boeing aboard airlines that offer the service.

In both cases, customers must enter user identification and passwords for access. Charges will appear on their monthly phone bills.

Earlier this week, China Airlines agreed to offer Connexion by Boeing service. The carrier will initially make the service available aboard long-haul North American flights in the second quarter of next year.<
