Cingular begins contest for mobile video clips

ATLANTA-Cingular Wireless L.L. C. announced a contest encouraging would-be film directors to create 15-second film clips with their video phones.

The carrier is offering $5,000 in cash and a Motorola V551 handset to creators of winning film shorts in two categories: one for college film students and another for Cingular customers between the ages of 13 and 24.

Cingular will offer a limited number of “loaner” Motorola phones for film students who want to enter the contest, which runs through January 2005. Hollywood director and New York University film school graduate Brett Ratner will judge the student entries.<p
