PRESTONBURG, Ky.-Rural wireless operator East Kentucky Network, which operates under the Appalachian Wireless brand name, said it plans to deploy Kodiak Network’s Real-Time Exchange System that will allow the carrier to offer push-to-talk services. The carrier, which offers service in 20 counties in southeast Kentucky and parts of Virginia, said it plans to commercially launch the service early next year.
Kodiak noted that East Kentucky Network is the sixth wireless operator to select its infrastructure following previous announcements from domestic carriers Alltel Corp., Bluegrass Cellular and Cellcom and international deployments by Orange S.A. in Europe and IT&E in Guam.
