MONTREAL-Canadian telecommunications provider BCE Inc. said it plans to begin technical trials of CDMA2000 1x EV-DO technology on its wireless network with plans to launch commercial services in major Canadian urban centers beginning late next year. The company, which controls Canada’s second-largest wireless operator Bell Mobility, said it plans to offer video streaming, e-mail and video messaging, video conferencing and location-based services using the high-speed wireless data network.
Verizon Wireless has already launched EV-DO services in a handful of U.S. markets with plans to cover two-thirds of its network by the end of next year, while Sprint PCS has announced similar plans to deploy EV-DO across most of its network by the end of 2005.
