Microsoft says no wireless OS news at CES

Although some in the industry expect Microsoft Corp. chief Bill Gates to discuss an update to the company’s mobile-phone operating systems during his keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, the company said it will not announce any new features for its Smartphone and Pocket PC platforms.

Internet rumors had forecast Microsoft updating its Windows Mobile platforms, making Pocket PC and Smartphone look the same and both support one-handed operation. Pocket PC now operates on a pen-based entry system, while Smartphone is aimed at one-handed use.

A Windows Mobile spokeswoman, however, said the company has no plans to show off an upgraded wireless platform. She said the company continues to work on future versions of its products in an effort to provide more choice and flexibility while maintaining familiar and reliable experiences.
