Wireless strip poker comes to U.S.

Mobile content provider ThumbPlay announced a new strip-poker-style game where players face off against a series of virtual female models who change clothes during the game.

Popular in Europe, the Java-based networked game features a “cheat” button that allows players to buy garments from their opponents for $1. ThumbPlay hastily added the game’s content “fits U.S. decency standards.”

“We have seen a great interest in humorously produced games, such as poker, where users can play against a model, and building a networked version of this game, where friends can join in, is very appealing,” said Are Traasdahl, ThumbPlay’s founder and president. “There is no nudity in the poker game; it is quite tasteful, challenging and addictive.”

ThumbPlay is offering the initial application for $4 and players can bet accordingly during the game. Downloadable photos will also be offered with the title.

Adult content company PlayBoy Enterprises Inc. last month announced plans to enter the U.S. wireless market through a deal with Dwango Wireless.
