DUBLIN, Calif.-Sybase Inc. subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions Inc. launched the latest version of AvantGo Tuesday, updating its free service that delivers Web content to smart phones and personal digital assistants.
With the latest version, AvantGo subscribers can browse more than 1,200 Web “channels,” including news, business and sports sites via their handsets. Internet content can be downloaded to devices during sync times, or users can surf the Web via a new AvantGo homepage.
“We thought it had become time to overhaul our user experience, as more of our user base migrated toward converged devices,” said Jon Asmussen, AvantGo’s product manager. “What that resulted in was enhancements to the wireless user experience and how (users) can explore the service and personalize content of the service.”
The new version of AvantGo is available for Palm OS 5, Pocket PC and Symbian devices.
