MURRAY HILL, N.J.-Lucent Technologies Inc. is teaming with Alvarion to provide converged networking technology that will allow carriers to complement existing third-generation and wireline networks with WiMAX, the companies announced Tuesday.
Lucent said it will integrate WiMAX technology based on the IEEE 802.16 standard from Alvarion’s BreezeMax product line into its Accelerate Next Generation Communications Solutions portfolio. The companies hope to allow service providers to deliver seamless communications services across a variety of wireless and wireline networks.
“WiMAX clearly complements existing and emerging 3G mobile and wireline networks and can play a significant role in helping our customers deliver converged service offerings that can be accessed using a broad range of devices on a wide variety of networks,” said John Marinho, vice president of strategic marketing for Lucent.
In addition, Lucent will provide a comprehensive suite of deployment, maintenance and professional services to support WiMAX infrastructure and applications.
Both Lucent and Alvarion are members of the WiMAX Forum.
