STOCKHOLM, Sweden-In its second W-CDMA contract announcement in a week, L.M. Ericsson said Connex, a wireless operator in Romania, has selected the Swedish vendor to supply gear for its W-CDMA rollout. The network will be the first to offer third-generation services to mobile users in the country.
Under the agreement, Ericsson will deliver and implement 3G core and radio network equipment as well as system integration and optimization services, including multi-vendor integration. Ericsson also will provide competence development and technical support services for the supplied solutions.
The value of the contract was not disclosed.
Ericsson announced a W-CDMA contract with Hungary’s Pannon GSM earlier in the week. Ericsson was selected as a supplier to build the first phase of Telenor Hungarian wireless subsidiary Pannon GSM’s third-generation mobile network. The value of the UMTS contract was not disclosed.
Ericsson said Pannon customers in Budapest will have access to the 3G network in the second half of 2005. The network will be rolled out to other parts of Hungary in late 2005 and early 2006. The companies also signed a contract to update Pannon’s EDGE network.
“Our company made the first steps to launch GPRS and EDGE, and now we take the lead in the 3G era too. We have purchased the most valuable concession package from the government recently. We want to offer the highest-quality services and all the benefits of broadband communications to our customers,” said Ove Fredheim, chief executive officer of Pannon GSM.
