Redline Communications unveiled a WiMAX-ready base station and subscriber station. Redline released the AN-100U, a fully compliant IEEE 802.16-2004 platform. NTT DoCoMo Inc. released its 2G mova N506iS mobile phone, which the carrier said is the first phone to contain a flat-panel display that also functions as a speaker. DoCoMo said the phone’s flat-panel speaker emits sound by sending vibrations throughout the entire display panel; most handsets feature speakers on the side of the display. Novatel Wireless Inc. released its newest W-CDMA laptop computer card, which the company said will work on the 2100 MHz band in Asia, Europe and the Middle East, as well as on GPRS and GSM networks on the 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequencies. The company said the Merlin U630 card is shipping to some wireless carriers and in testing with others. Novatel makes a variety of W-CDMA laptop cards, and many see the company ahead of rival Sierra Wireless in the W-CDMA PC card space.
