MobZilla licenses BMI music portfolio for streaming service

LOS ANGELES-Music rights giant BMI said Wednesday it has licensed its portfolio to mobZilla for use with the mobile media company’s streaming music service.

The partnership brings roughly 4.5 million BMI works to mobZilla, which announced the U.S. launch of its monthly subscription in conjunction with the licensing deal. MobZilla’s offering provides commercial-free music both online and to mobile phones for $3.98 per month, although a spokesman said that price point may be subject to change in coming months.

“With online music subscription services taking hold and with the increase in mobile Internet connectivity, streaming music to mobile phones is a natural extension of today’s technology,” said Mike Pinto, mobZilla’s chief executive officer. “mobZilla has taken the logical step of providing a single subscription service that gives users unlimited access to streaming music anywhere, anytime.”
