OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-Hoops hysteria hit mobile phones this week, as Sprint PCS launched an offering of voice tones from cacophonous college basketball commentator Dick Vitale and an ESPN-branded application based on the NCAA tournament.
Wireless users can access any of 14 well-worn Vitale sayings like “Awesome, baby” and “Dipsy-doo dunk-a-roo” for $2.50 each, and can get tournament news, scores and statistics via the ESPN application. Other offerings include video news and updates, college fight song ringtones and a college text -messaging trivia game.
“College basketball-themed content from Sprint is a great way for alums and tournament-frenzied fans to stay in touch with the big dance and show their loyalty directly on their wireless handset,” said Jeff Hallock, Sprint’s vice president of product marketing and strategy.
