NEW ORLEANS-Wireless subscribership grew by 21.7 percent last year, according to CTIA’s semi-annual industry survey released this week at CTIA Wireless 2005.
Wireless subscribers now exceed 180 million, representing a penetration rate of more than 60 percent. The survey also found wireless users in the United States for the first time used more than 1 trillion wireless minutes last year, while the average local monthly bill grew by only 1.5 percent to $50.64.
Capital investment in network expansion and upgrades reached nearly $28 billion, according to the survey. The total number of cell sites at the end of the year was 175,725.
