NEW ORLEANS-Several infrastructure suppliers announced third-generation contract wins.
L.M. Ericsson said Swedish 3G operator Svenska UMTS-Nät AB, the joint venture between Tele2 and TeliaSonera, awarded it a new three-year frame agreement for the delivery of a core and radio access network. Under the agreement, Ericsson will continue to secure multivendor network integration between the shared 3G network and the respective second-generation networks of Tele2 and TeliaSonera.
The value of the agreement was not disclosed.
Siemens AG said T-Mobile Croatia, a subsidiary of T-Mobile International, has contracted it as the sole supplier for the carrier’s 3G network. Siemens will upgrade the operator’s existing GSM network with 3G mobile radio and switching technology by year-end. In the first phase, T-Mobile Croatia plans to provide UMTS services in urban areas, and meeting the prescribed regulation criteria and depending on market demands, the operator will build out the network across the country.
Siemens did not disclose the monetary value of the contract.
Motorola Inc. said it received a $150 million expansion order from Japan’s KDDI to deploy its CDMA2000 1x Radio Access Network system. The Motorola RAN system is scheduled for deployment beginning in fiscal 2006, primarily for services in the 2 GHz band, where KDDI has already begun to roll out services. The order represents the first stage in a broader plan for Motorola to provide equipment and services for KDDI’s continued deployment of CDMA2000 1x technology.
In other Motorola contract news, the vendor said it also is deploying a fully integrated CDMA network and soft switch for Honduran operator Comunitel. The new 800 MHz network is scheduled for service early in the second quarter.
