PubSub to provide RSS feeds to handsets

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.-Internet monitoring service PubSub Concepts Inc. is teaming with Santa Cruz Tech to provide real-time RSS alerts to mobile phones.

The free service, dubbed FeedBeep, delivers RSS news feeds to handsets via text messages. PubSub technology monitors blogs and other Internet sites searching for keywords set by users, and a message is instantly sent when a Web page containing those words is posted. Instead of “spiders” that crawl the Web looking for pages, PubSub provides a real-time “prospective search” engine, the company said.

“With access to instant information updates in blogs, news releases or other critical alerts, people are empowered to respond using the very latest and most relevant information,” said Robert Wyman, chief technology officer and co-founder of PubSub.
