STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson and Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo Inc. said they completed W-CDMA Interoperability Testing for global roaming purposes. The tests were performed in DoCoMo’s laboratories followed by fully completed field tests in DoCoMo’s live FOMA network.
“The successful completion of the IOT tests with DoCoMo was essential for global roaming using our platform,” said Sandeep Chennakeshu, head of Ericsson Mobile Platforms.
“Since the technology from Ericsson Mobile Platforms is widely deployed in leading W-CDMA mobile phones, the completion of this testing is very important for DoCoMo as it would enhance our support for users roaming into DoCoMo’s network in Japan,” commented Takanori Utano, managing director of the research and development division for NTT DoCoMo.
In a separate announcement, Ericsson said it was selected by Telefónica to provide Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem technology, allowing Telefónica to offer its fixed network customers various services, including IP telephony and IP Centrex to business users. The implementation will start during the second quarter.
