ESPOO, Finland-Nokia Corp. released its new 8801 for the Americas market, a sleek, sliding-style EDGE camera phone that features a stainless steel body, specially reinforced glass for the front display, and bi-stable spring mechanism and stainless steel ball bearings for the sliding mechanism.
The device also features ringtones and alerts composed by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto.
“Subtlety and refinement are requirements of modern high design, appealing to consumers who place a high value in quality and attention to detail,” said Frank Nuovo, Nokia’s chief designer. “We believe the Nokia 8801 belongs in this pantheon of iconic products-a sophisticated mobile communication device that quietly earns a nod of appreciation and admiration from other connoisseurs of fine taste.”
The device also features Bluetooth, a digital music player and an FM radio. It is scheduled for release in the third quarter, while the 8800 version for the Asia/Europe market is scheduled for release in the second quarter.
