THQ Wireless scores licensing deal for baseball content

Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) announced its second mobile licensing agreement in a week, unveiling a deal granting THQ Wireless exclusive rights to publish strategy games, player images and ringtones.

THQ said it will produce a trivia game under the partnership and will offer voice tones from stars including Eric Gagne, Roger Clemens, Alfonso Soriano and Johnny Damon. The deal complements a previously announced partnership with the Major League Baseball Players Association, under which THQ is offering two action titles and a daily fantasy-style game.

“These are applications that everyone, not just gamers, can enjoy,” Tim Walsh, president of THQ Wireless, said of the new offerings. “More and more casual gamers are downloading content onto their mobile phones, and we are thrilled MLBAM has selected THQ Wireless to deliver these mass-market products.”

The interactive media and Internet arm of the league, MLBAM announced last week that it had expanded on an existing agreement with Jamdat Mobile Inc. for exclusive action-gaming rights. Jamdat has published league-licensed action titles for the past three years.
