TURKEY
Turkish carrier AVEA Iletisim Hizmetleri A.S. selected Nokia to supply a commercial Push to Talk over Cellular solution. The deal also includes Nokia’s Presence solution. The vendor will provide installation, commissioning and project management services, in addition to consulting work to integrate PoC to the billing and mediation systems, said Nokia. AVEA is jointly owned by Telecom Italia Mobile, Turk Telekom and Isbank.
SOUTH AFRICA
Qualcomm Inc. said it is collaborating with Inetcam in a 1x EV-DO trial in South Africa. The trial is highlighting several value-added applications, including real-time monitoring for security and surveillance, traffic cameras, remote telemedicine and distance learning. Inetcam’s audio/video management software is being used for the trial.
PERU
America Movil S.A. de C.V. said it won a license to provide mobile service in Peru. The company offered $21.1 million in a public auction for the spectrum.
MEXICO
Phone distribution company CellStar Corp. announced it is distributing Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. phones in Mexico to Unefon.
ISRAEL
Israeli mobile communications operator Partner Communications Co. Ltd., which operates under the Orange IL brand, launched Mobixell Networks’ Media Adaptation and Optimization Solution on its network. Mobixell’s Central Rich Media Service Central solution is a multimedia service center designed for mobile multimedia services, which enables processing of images, animation, audio and video.
JAPAN
Java virtual machine vendor Esmertec scored a majority stake in eValley Inc., which sells Java technology for mobile phones in Japan. Esmertec teamed with Tokyo-based eValley in 2002 and took a minority stake in the company in 2003.
