Freescale Semiconductor launched a single-source ZigBee-compliant platform, which the company said is the first of its kind in the world.
The product was confirmed as IEEE 802.15.4- and ZigBee-compliant by TUV Rheinland of North America.
The solution enables wireless products for monitoring, sensing, automation and control applications in the home, light commercial and industrial environments, said the company. It is designed to reduce the time and expense involved with developing products using multiple suppliers, said Freescale.
Freescale is offering its MC13193 evaluation kit, which contains hardware and software to demonstrate and develop ZigBee-compliant solutions.
In addition, Freescale offers MCUs, sensors and its CodeWarrier Development Studio to support developers, said the company. It also is providing reference designs with layout files, antenna examples and module solutions from third-party partners.
“We expect the emerging global ZigBee standard to be a major enabler for networked monitoring and control applications like industrial controllers, sensor nets and home controllers,” said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. “Freescale has taken a leadership role in the alliance and in this certification process, which will continue to grow industry support for the adoption of wireless connectivity.”
