WATERLOO, Ontario-Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P. and Siemens AG joined the growing list of handset manufacturers selling devices that can connect to Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry wireless e-mail service.
Sony Ericsson announced Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. in Singapore will sell its P910i smart phone with BlackBerry software. Separately, 3 Hong Kong introduced Siemens’ SK65 with BlackBerry software. The two companies had previously announced BlackBerry licensing agreements with RIM, and these are the first commercial offerings under the licensing deals. Other BlackBerry-capable devices currently available include Nokia Corp.’s 6810, 6820, 6822, 9300 and 9500, the O2 XDA II, the T-Mobile MDA II, and the Motorola Inc. MPx and MPx220.
In other BlackBerry news, EarthLink Wireless announced it will sell RIM’s BlackBerry 7250, which features Bluetooth. The company already sells several BlackBerry models, as well as wireless PC cards. EarthLink Wireless is a branded service line of the newly established SK-EarthLink, a joint venture between SK Telecom and EarthLink.
In other device news, PalmOne Inc. released its new Tungsten E personal digital assistant, which features a brighter color screen, flash memory, Bluetooth and a more powerful battery. And Motorola Inc. announced Leap carrier Cricket Communications Inc. will sell its V262 phone for $180.
