Alltel completes AWS spectrum purchases from Cingular

Alltel Corp. said it has completed the purchase of former AT&T Wireless Services Inc. properties from Cingular Wireless. The sale was part of government-mandated divestitures by Cingular following its $41 billion acquisition of AWS.

The sale included licenses, network assets and subscribers in Oklahoma City and Grant, Okla.; Sherman, Denison and Jack, Texas; Owensboro and Fulton, Ky.; Litchfield, Conn.; and Yalobusha, Miss. In addition, Alltel acquired 20 megahertz of spectrum and network assets in Wichita, Kan., and wireless spectrum in several counties in Georgia and Texas. Cingular received $170 million in cash for the included assets.

In connection with the deal, the two companies also swapped partnership interests in a handful of markets, with Cingular gaining share in Detroit, Kansas City, Wichita and several markets in Texas, while Alltel received interests in Michigan, northern Louisiana and Toledo, Ohio.
