FRANKFURT, Germany-Days after Intel Corp. made waves with its new WiMAX chip, rival Fujitsu announced its own WiMAX offering. The company said its new MB87M3400 chip works on the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard and is available for both base stations and WiMAX terminals.
“This new WiMAX-compliant SoC (system on a chip) is the industry’s most integrated, modular, scalable and cost-efficient solution,” said Keith Horn, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Fujitsu. “Our design team has worked very closely with innovative systems developers worldwide to deliver the optimal technology for WiMAX-compliant equipment. Early adopters of our system-on-chip are now set to make 2005 the inaugural year for WiMAX-based customer premise equipment, base stations and low-cost subscriber stations in a broad range of geographic markets.”
Chinese equipment vendor ZTE Corp. announced it will use the Fujitsu chip in its WiMAX products.
