Nokia phones to ring up Yahoo! content

ESPOO, Finland-Yahoo! will provide Internet-based services and content to Series 60 devices from Nokia Corp., the companies announced Tuesday. Yahoo! will have a link to its mobile Web site installed on Nokia devices.

The portal will provide e-mail, mobile search services and entertainment content including ringtones, wallpaper and games to consumers in at least 10 European and Asian markets. The first Nokia handsets to feature the offerings are the 6680, 6681 and 6630; others will be announced Wednesday.

Current owners of the devices in will be able to download similar applications in the specified markets over the air in the second half of 2005.

“Access to information, entertainment and the ability to stay in touch when and where you want is at the heart of our vision of a mobile connected life,” said Harry Santamaki, vice president of strategy and business development for Nokia Multimedia. “Our agreement with Yahoo! is a progressive step in facilitating the adoption of an online lifestyle.”

Yahoo! has recently been expanding its wireless Web presence with new features as well as downloadable ringtones and games.
