Test market on upward climb

PALO ALTO, Calif.-The wireless test equipment market is projected to grow to $4.5 billion by 2011 from $1.9 billion last year as carriers move toward third-generation networks, according to a report form Frost & Sullivan.

The report, “World Wireless Communications Test Equipment Markets,” said carriers, network equipment manufactures and handset vendors will have to assure quality of service as consumer expectations from 3G services increase.

The report said the emergence of an increasingly multicarrier environment will force vendors to design equipment that can handle multicarrier tests, but consolidation eventually will dilute that challenge. In addition, the report said a key differentiator among vendors will be the ability to deliver test equipment at a high price-performance feature point.

GSM technology, said the report, will likely remain the strongest driver for growth and demand for wireless test equipment.
