University conducts VoIP quality testing

LAS VEGAS-The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory released a white paper outlining the technical results it found in a multivendor test it conducted mixing data, video and Voice over Internet Protocol in typical wired and wireless corporate wireless area networks.

Companies that participated in the test were Aruba, Azimuth, Cisco, ClearSight, Dell, Empirix, Fluke Networks, Hirschman, IBM, Ixia, Sifos, Spirent Communications and Veriwave.

The overall event consisted of bridging, wireless and VoIP testing performed in two phases: small network interoperability and conformance testing and buildout of an enterprise network to provide the underlying infrastructure for triple play and wireless services, said the white paper.

Among other things, the test found drops in wireless voice quality in certain situations.
