Group asks for Supreme Court review on cell-tower RF health research

WASHINGTON-An advocacy group asked the Supreme Court to review a lower court’s refusal to order the Federal Communications Commission to require research on the health impact of continuous radio-frequency radiation emitted from cell towers.

In a press release, the EMR Network said its petition for certiorari requests that the high court overturn FCC and federal appeals rulings, which rejected requests for additional research on non-stop exposure to signals from cell towers that service 180 million cellular consumers in the United States. Current FCC RF exposure guidelines, according to the EMR Network, make no distinction between children, the elderly, or the ailing among the general population.

Whitney North Seymour Jr., cofounder of the Natural Resources Defense Council, is representing the EMR Network on a pro bono basis.

The FCC’s RF radiation standard has been upheld by two federal appeals courts, and the mobile-phone industry has yet to lose a health-related lawsuit.
