LOS ANGELES-The wireless industry came out in force for the E3 video game convention, with a variety of gaming players making news.
- Jamdat Mobile Inc. announced it reached a deal with Id Software to bring the company’s popular computer game Doom to mobile phones. Jamdat said it will release the game in conjunction with the upcoming Doom motion picture.
- Mforma announced its World Poker Tour Texas Hold ‘Em game is available on various wireless networks in the United States. A variety of wireless gaming companies offer similar poker games for mobile phones. Separately, Mforma said it hired a former Electronics Arts executive as its new vice president of production.
- Sorrent showed off a variety of its wireless games, including Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Mobile, FOX Sports Football ’06 and Kingdom of Heaven. Sorrent also announced a deal with The Bitmap Brothers to bring the company’s games to mobile phones. Sorrent said it would start with the Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe game.
- Yahoo! Games released its new multiplayer Yahoo! Poker game.
- Gameloft announced new 3D multiplayer games Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm and Asphalt: Urban for Verizon Wireless’ Vcast phones.
- iFone said it will sell games based on The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Casper the Ghost, Roger Ramjet, Clue, Game of Life and Lemmings.
