Navicore offers navigation system for mobile devices

LONDON-Navicore Personal launched its next-generation navigation system for handsets.

The product uses a proprietary routing algorithm to respond to directions taken by users. Reportedly, calculating routes of hundreds of miles takes only a few seconds.

Navicore Personal is sold as a complete retail package including a memory card with the Navicore application, all U.K. maps, and a Bluetooth global positioning system receiver and charger. The receiver features the most recent SiRF III GPS chip that Navicore said gives an accurate signal even through a bag, pocket or glove compartment of a car.

The product gives spoken instructions in multiple languages.

William Morgan, Navicore’s U.K. country manager, said: “Featuring a point-and-click user interface, we have designed the product ground up for mobile phone use so, in comparison with competitive solutions that are typically ported versions of PDA navigators, Navicore Personal is the most responsive product on the market. It reacts to user input instantly even on mobile handsets with limited computing power.”

Navicore Personal will be available June 1 through O2 retail stores for Symbian Series 60-based mobile phones and Series 80 handsets. Support for Symbian UIQ will soon be available.
