TEWKSBURY, Mass.-Venezuelan operator Movilnet has chosen Starent Networks to provide its ST16 Intelligent Mobile Gateway for data service access on Movilnet’s CDMA2000 1x and 1x EV-DO network.
The ST16 acts as a gateway between the wireless network and core Internet Protocol network.
One of the keys to the contract was that Starent’s equipment allows for prepaid data services through the carrier’s existing prepaid network architecture, said the companies. The system’s enhanced charging features allow for tiered billing based on application types for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers. In addition, when prepaid accounts are exhausted, subscribers are redirected to top-up portals where they can purchase more time or bytes of usage, said Starent.
In conjunction with the contract, Movilnet has also licensed Bridgewater Systems’ AAA Service Controller, Prepaid Integrator and Session Director solutions.
