OSLO, Norway-Telenor Mobile introduced a filter designed to limit mobile users’ access to child pornography Internet sites.
The child-porn filter expands on an offering the wireless and fixed-network operator launched for Internet users last October. The software contains a list of Web sites used to distribute such content, automatically redirecting users who try to access illicit sites.
“With the advent of new technology, new challenges also arise, as well as new demands on mobile operators,” said Berit Kjoll, Telenor’s head of consumer markets. “Any attempt at accessing a child pornography Web site that we are able to prevent means less money to the people responsible for such sites.”
Telenor said it believes it is the first mobile carrier to offer such a filter.
