Enquire starts off-portal search tool for mobile content

LONDON-Spanish mobile entertainment company Enquire S.L. unveiled an off-portal search tool designed to allow consumers to browse mobile content and service outside carrier decks.

The site, www.mooobl.com, directs users to travel, business and news WAP sites, as well as six adult entertainment offerings. The search engine, which is targeted primarily at European users, also allows users to look up mobile Internet sites by name.

Off-portal activity is gaining significant traction in Europe, where companies like Bango and InfoSpace’s Jamba have drawn users to Internet sites rather than carrier decks to sell content.

“There are a lot of people searching out there,” said Marc Jarrett, communications manager of Enquire. “Our aim is to help them find what they want, not what their mobile network wants them to find.”
