COLUMBIA, S.C.-Nextel Communications Inc. said it has added more than 3,800 square miles of coverage to its network in South Carolina. The expanded coverage includes the Interstate-26 and I-20 corridors as well as parts of Columbia, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Greenville, Spartanburg, Florence, Orangeburg, Newberry, Sumter, Lexington and Camden.
Nextel, which is in the process of being acquired by Sprint Corp., said its iDEN-based network covers about 263 million potential customers in 297 of the nation’s top 300 markets, when coverage by affiliate Nextel Partners Inc. is included.
