Airgo announces MIMO chipsets

PALO ALTO, Calif.-Airgo Networks Inc. unveiled its True G and True AG chipsets, which the company said would deliver the benefits of Multiple Input Multiple Output technology to mid-market pricing of wireless local area network infrastructure.

In connection with the launch of the new chipsets, Airgo also reduced the cost of its flagship True MIMO solution, which the company said would result in a 20-percent to 25-percent cost reduction to consumers.

Belkin, Buffalo and Linksys currently use Airgo’s True MIMO solution for their consumer products that deliver higher throughput and greater range than standard 802.11g solutions through the use of multiple antennas for data transmission. MIMO solutions, also known as pre-N 802.11, are also backward compatible with Wi-Fi networks that use the unlicensed 2.4 GHz spectrum band.
