SAN DIEGO-Viper Networks Inc. updated its Wi-Fi phone, which the company said will allow users to make Voice over Internet Protocol calls from any hot spot. The company’s new 3100 vPhone replaces its 2100 model, released last year.
“I am ecstatic, as this moves Viper Networks far ahead of our competition in the VoIP market,” said Ron Weaver, the company’s chief executive officer. “We have been offering a Wi-Fi VoIP device to our customers for over one year and are already offering a new and improved product at a better price.”
Other companies including UTStarcom sell similar devices. And vendors like Nokia Corp. and Siemens sell dual-mode wide and local area wireless devices, although the Wi-Fi technology on those phones is generally intended for data-only operations.
