Leap expands roaming service to all markets

SAN DIEGO-Leap Wireless International Inc. said it has expanded the availability of its Travel Time roaming service to all of its Cricket markets. The roaming service allows Cricket customers to use their phones outside of their home calling areas on a prepaid basis for 59 cents per minute or 69 cents per minute for Jump by Cricket prepaid subscribers.

Leap initially announced the Travel Time service earlier this year when it signed a nationwide roaming agreement with Verizon Wireless. Leap noted the service was targeted at occasional roaming customers and not intended for high-usage road warriors.

“We are pleased with the initial reception of Travel Time,” said Al Moschner, Leap executive vice president and chief marketing officer. “We believe this will significantly increase the value of our service for both consumers and business professionals who have the need to travel outside their local Cricket calling area.”

In connection with the expansion, Leap signed a roaming agreement with Mexican CDMA operator Iusacell that Leap said will eventually allow Cricket customers to use their handsets in Mexico.
