Eastcom to use CPS technology in handsets

CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom-Chinese equipment manufacturer Eastcom said it plans to include Cambridge Positioning Systems’ Matrix location technology in some handset models.

The Matrix technology uses existing GSM infrastructure to transfer location information to the network using GPRS or SMS, said the company.

“Eastcom is delighted to offer to its customers, both consumer and corporate, leading-edge server mobile location center (SMLC), and handsets that support Matrix to enable us to deliver self-developed high accuracy, low cost services to meet the Chinese local market needs,” said Xiaoyi Wu, vice president of Eastcom. “Through cooperation with CPS, it could help Eastcom to be a major positioning service provider in China.”
