AUSTIN, Texas-Motorola Inc. announced it will continue to use chips from Freescale Semiconductor Inc.-the company’s former chip subsidiary-in its third-generation devices through 2008. Motorola and Freescale have been developing 3G chips since 2001.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Motorola said it will use Freescale’s 3G platforms, including its High Speed Downlink Packet Access products and its single core modem architecture for mass market phones.
In other chip news, Qualcomm Inc. announced it has begun sampling its new dual-CPU MSM7500 Convergence Platform single-chip solution, which is designed for CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A networks. Qualcomm said the high-end chipset supports advances including an 8-megapixel digital camera, camcorder-like video recorder, VGA resolution gaming, an ATI 3D graphics engine and a dedicated applications processor to support the BREW solution and third-party operating systems.
The new processor also includes an ARM11 applications processor and an ARM9 modem processor.
