PARIS-French smart-card provider Oberthur Card Systems announced it will supply Cingular Wireless L.L.C. with Subscriber Identity Module cards beginning this month. Cingular announced a similar deal June 12 with Oberthur’s rival, French vendor Gemplus International S.A.
“This major step significantly strengthens our determination to become the main supplier of SIM cards to large mobile operators in North and Central America,” said Philippe Tartavull, Oberthur’s U.S. managing director.
Oberthur also posted a 13.6-percent rise in second-quarter sales, with sales of $145.2 million, up from $108 million during the second quarter of 2004.
