iPCS adds 12K subs in fiscal third quarter

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Sprint PCS affiliate iPCS Inc. added nearly 12,000 net subscribers during its third fiscal quarter, bumping its total number of customers to 271,000 for the period ending June 30, the company said.

iPCS said it had gross additions of 32,300 users during the period and had a monthly churn rate of 2.2 percent. Horizon PCS, which merged with iPCS effective July 1, claimed 4,200 net additions during the quarter and a monthly churn of 2.6 percent.

Earlier this week, an Illinois judge came down against iPCS, ruling not to issue a temporary restraining order to block Sprint Corp.’s acquisition of Nextel Communications Inc. The affiliate had requested the order in a lawsuit filed against Sprint late last week. iPCS claims the planned acquisition will breach the carrier’s exclusivity obligations with iPCS.

Shares of iPCS nudged up 1 percent Thursday morning, reaching $37.05 by mid-day on the Over the Counter Bulletin Board.
