Malaysia’s Celcom selects Alcatel for NGN

PARIS-Alcatel Corp. signed a multi-million dollar contract with Malaysian mobile operator Celcom to expand Celcom’s GSM network and upgrade it with a mobile next-generation network solution, which will increase the company’s ability to provide its 5.79 million subscribers with new multimedia services at optimized costs.

Alcatel said the contract includes radio access network and Internet Protocol-based NGN solutions, which include Alcatel’s new generation Home Location Register, the repository for all subscriber information and the knowledge center of a network.

“Our next-generation network solutions are based on open standards and are software upgradeable, which means we can enhance the quality of networks such as Celcom’s today, and then upgrade them quickly and efficiently to meet the needs and demands of customers tomorrow,” said Datuk Yusof Ampuan Kechil, managing director of Alcatel in Malaysia.
