U.S. Cellular turns on service in St. Louis

U.S. Cellular Corp. launched wireless service in St. Louis, which becomes the carrier’s second-largest market behind Chicago.

The carrier noted that it has deployed nearly 300 cell sites, hired more than 400 people and invested about $90 million to build out its St. Louis network. U.S. Cellular added that it has opened 20 retail stores and 30 agent locations throughout the greater St. Louis area, and the carrier plans to open at least two additional retail stores and four agent locations by the end of the year.

As part of the launch, U.S. Cellular said it has signed $1.3 million in sponsorship agreements with various local organizations, including a deal to be the exclusive wireless provider for the St. Louis Rams football team and to revive the city’s Taste of St. Louis festival.

U.S. Cellular serves more than 5.2 million customers in 149 markets across 25 states.
